We’re excited to share the trailer and announce the World Premiere of ‘Polheim’ at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival

“Polheim” is a feature length documentary that tells the captivating story of three young explorers, chosen for the Antarctic Heritage Trust’s Inspiring Explorers Expedition™. They embark on a human powered journey across Antarctica, following in the footsteps of the legendary Roald Amundsen. The title, “Polheim” – meaning “home at the pole” in Norwegian – reflects the legacy of Amundsen’s 1911 South Pole expedition and the connections forged within the team during this epic 21st century homage.

Beyond the physical hardships of “man-hauling” nearly 1000 km in extreme conditions, the film delves into the psychological journey of these explorers, facing 50 days of isolation in the world’s most remote terrain. Far from home, what will Antarctica reveal about themselves?

“Polheim” is our fourth adventure documentary. We began work on this film in October 2022, while the team was preparing for departure. Shot by expedition member Mike Dawson, and co-directed by Liddy Whiteman and Simon Waterhouse, the film offers stunning Antarctic landscapes and an intimate look at the explorers’ experiences. On behalf of Antarctic Heritage Trust, our goal was to create a film that honours the history of polar exploration and the spirit of adventure, and to provide inspiration for the next generation of explorers.

The film is just beginning its journey on the international mountain film festival circuit, but you can watch it online via VIMFF.org between 23 February and 24 March 2024 with an online festival pass and additionally enjoy more than 70 thought-provoking and action-packed, mountain films.
